My husband told me he wants to get me a necklace for Christmas. We’re going together and i know the design i would like for it (a bezel set diamond) but i’d like to be able to get the largest diamond we can afford. I was wondering how you go about haggling at a jewelry store or if that’s even acceptable to do. How much off can you ask for? Our budget will probably be $300. I know that since we’re in a recession it seems like i should be able to swing a deal some how. Please help.

Do a quick research on internet , for how much big a diamond will come in the price range of $300. and of what quality. you can get even 1ct. diamond but it would be of VS Clarity scale.
you can find many diamond sellers at this page http://www.dirjewelry.com/Diamonds/

Don’t just buy the largest diamond you can afford! Here’s why..
If I put two diamonds in front of you. One is bigger than the other but the smaller one is a much better quality diamond than the bigger one. I guarantee you will choose the smaller one because a better quality diamond will outshine and sparkle a lower quality but bigger diamond every time.
Plus, you can get a diamond for way cheaper online. It is very easy and interesting to learn more about the quality of diamonds.

wait until black friday it is when all the sales are going on, and wake up early to make sure your not left the crappy remains. you might be able to finagle a deal depending on who you are dealing with but usually they wont budge.
