First day in a new job

What to wear, oh what to wear? Now you don’t want to give the wrong impression on day one in your new job do you, but like it or not, first impressions are both important and lasting. I’ve decided to play it safe with a new navy suit and somewhat expensive white silk blouse, but the most important thing to me is what to team with this classic look.
I’m a costume jewellery addict and I normally like to make an impression with an eye-catching set – a big chunky necklace, or maybe an elegant, gemstone necklace with matching clip on earrings that refuse to go unnoticed, teamed with a baggy jumper and jeans. That’s outside of work of course!
You know I usually find it quite difficult to find good quality clip earrings as I don’t have pierced ears. My mum has the same problem. As luck would have it I did recently find a brilliant website with hundreds of pairs of very stylish clip earrings, so my normal moan about not being able to find any non-pierced earrings was swept away.
I digress – back to what to wear on day one? I want the people in the office to know that I mean business, I’m going to be their boss after all, so I don’t want to look too ostentatious, but I certainly don’t want to appear fuddy-duddy. I want to look upbeat, in tune with the times, someone they will come to respect and hopefully like. I also need a confidence boost – I’m going to be responsible for a team of 50!
Mum suggested a striking sterling silver necklace with sterling silver clip on earrings to match. Tasteful and modern, without breaking the bank – so thanks for the advice Mum. I did wonder about a three colour pearl necklace with matching pearl clip earrings that I’d recently seen in a costume jewellery catalogue, but I couldn’t find the catalogue, so in the end I went with Mum’s advice.
I bought a gorgeous, long length, sterling silver pendant necklace that I could adjust to make shorter if I wanted and stunning silver clip on earrings in a leaf design that matched and were just so comfortable, I forgot I had them on.
I got dressed up in the complete ensemble and went round to see Mum to show her exactly what I was going to wear and she had a bit of a tear in her eye as I paraded my new navy suit, silk blouse and sterling silver necklace with matching earrings – quite a departure from my normal jeans and a jumper. Now, if this was my first job I could understand, but I must tell you at this point that I’m on the wrong side of 50 and my Mum is 76!

Clips Earrings Saved My Vanity!

I have been addicted to earrings for all my adult life. Twenty years ago I would only wear pure gold stud earrings, drop earrings and hoop earrings – the bigger the better. So big in fact that one evening I found a gold hoop earring in my lap. Upon checking I found that my earlobe was torn and the hoop earring had simply fallen off with the butterfly back still in place on the post.
To say I was devastated would be an understatement. At that time I owned some 50 pairs of gold earrings – they were my pride and joy, and the thought that I wouldn’t be able to wear them was unbearable. I had the earlobe stitched, but it didn’t take, I then took to superglue (honest!), but it only worked for a couple of days at a time and then I started losing my gold earrings.
In desperation I turned to clip on earrings, I just didn’t feel like “me” without earrings in place, I didn’t feel “dressed”. I purchased a couple of pairs of clip on earrings, but found I could only wear them for a couple of hours at a time and would then have to remove them because they pinched. One memorable day a work colleague was admiring the clip earrings on my desk and asked why I wasn’t wearing them. I explained that they were pinching and that wonderful lady showed me there and then how to adjust clip earrings.
Since that day I haven’t looked back – I must have over 600 pairs of clip on earrings in my jewellery draw in every style, material and colour under the sun. Clip earrings then whetted my appetite for costume jewellery because I found I could buy necklaces with matching earrings. I didn’t have to pay a fortune either with costume jewellery being so much cheaper than fine jewellery. In a very short period of time I had become a clip earring and costume jewellery convert!
Over the years it has become harder to find good clip on earrings. I’ve given up with the shops but it is possible on the internet to find the occasional good site. A lot of sites seem to subscribe to the theory that if you wear clip on earrings you’ll only be interested in diamante clip earrings. For someone like me, who lives and dies in clip earrings I want clip on earrings suitable for everyday wear, for the office, to dress up and dress down, to go with jeans, to wear on the beach, on evenings out and with formal evening wear. I want clip on earrings for each and every day and evening in my life. Also, I don’t want them to look obviously clip earrings. I want dainty clip earrings, pretty pearl clip earrings, hoop clip earrings, stud clip earrings, gemstone clip on earrings, Swarovski crystal clip earrings – the list is endless.
I don’t want cheap – I want class – the better the quality, the better the clip. For retailers out there, I know clip earrings are a niche market seller, but there is a fast growing band of discerning consumers who want more choice and innovation in the clip on earring world and I know many ladies who, like me, will invest heavily in their clip earring collection.

Fall’s Must Have Rings

Of all the “it” items for the upcoming season, it’s hard to choose where to start. There’s that fabulous new coat you’ve been eyeing, those killer boots or that new handbag. But luckily for fashionistas on a budget, accessories like cocktail rings are affordable and easy to incorporate into your wardrobe – right now.
